At Hely, we love our e-cars: they are sustainable, modern and they also drive very comfortably! That is why we’d like to put the e-car in the limelight with some useful tips. Even though a fully charged e-car can go a long way - up to 250 km - no one wants to be surprised by an empty battery halfway through their journey. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do before and during your ride to make sure your battery lasts the entire trip! Check out our tips below.
Strong headwinds, rain and similar weather conditions affect the range of the e-car. Things like heating, air conditioning and lighting also consume a lot of energy. Do you have a long drive with bad weather? Then charge the e-car at a charging station during your appointment, then you’ll still have enough range for the way back.
The e-car has an Eco-mode, which reduces the car's climate control and horsepower to save energy. With a Nissan Leaf and Skoda Citigo you can activate it by clicking the 'Eco' button in the center console. With the Volkswagen E-Golf, click on 'Mode' in the center console and then select 'Eco' or 'Eco +' on the screen.
By turning on the recuperation-mode of the e-car, you can easily save a lot of energy. With this, the e-car charges itself a little bit every time you let go of the gas. With a Nissan Leaf, you activate the recuperation by activating Pro-Pilot and/or E-Pedal in the center console. With the Skoda Citigo you’ll find a couple letters in the center console: the recuperation is activated by putting the car in B-position. With the Volkswagen E-Golf, activate the recuperation by putting the car in D (drive) position and then pushing the lever to the left.
The faster you drive, the more energy the e-car uses. Therefore, do not drive too fast and, if possible, choose the shortest route instead of the fastest. In addition, giving a lot of gas and often slowing down consumes a lot of energy. Therefore try to maintain a constant speed.
You can find all charging stations in your area at oplaadpalen.nl. The power of charging stations is expressed in kW and symbolizes Kilowatt. This measures electricity consumption. The power of a regular charging station at home, near the office or in your neighborhood offers 3.7 kW to 11 kW charging power, so it takes a few hours before your battery is charged. Also, you can find more and more fast charging stations along the motorway, which offer capacities up to 350 kW! This is almost 100 times more power than a regular charging station. These fast chargers bring the capacity of an average empty battery to 80% in half an hour! You can check on Fastned where these fast charging stations are located.
An e-car emits 55% less CO2 than a regular passenger car?
You can also extend your reservation during your ride? Handy for when you do run out!
The number of electric cars in The Netherlands almost doubles every year?
One of the fastest chargers in the world is in The Netherlands? It charges with no less than 350 kWh!
