DRIVING TIPS

DRIVING SAFELY IN FOG

It probably has happened to most of us before. Early in the morning on the way to work you drive into some thick fog. This requires an extra level of attention. In the fog, your visibility is limited a lot. With Hely's 4 tips, you know exactly what to look out for when driving in dense fog.

Tip 1: Watch your speed

With dense fog, it is often difficult to see far ahead. So you will often have to react faster and have less time to anticipate. Prepare for this by reducing your speed. By doing so, you give yourself a little more time to react, which will help you avoid dangerous situations.

Tip 2: Use your fog lights or low beam lights

You have your fog lights for a reason. So use them when you're driving in fog. But don't turn them on too early. They can blind other road users. Turn on the front fog lights when your visibility is less than 200 meters and at the rear only when visibility is less than 50 meters. Please be aware that in many modern cars the lights come on automatically, fog lights do not always do this. So turn them on manually.

Tip 3: Turn on the windshield heater

Fog can cause condensation to form on your windshield or rear window. This makes the already limited visibility even less. So turn on your windshield heater to maintain as much visibility as you can.

Tip 4: Pay attention to temperature

Fog banks create a layer of moisture on the road. This is not a big deal at temperatures above freezing. But when the temperature drops below freezing, you have to be careful. This is when this layer of moisture can freeze, making the road surface very slippery. So check the temperature before you hit the road.

HELY HELPS YOU ON THE ROAD

At Hely we find it important that you can safely hit the road, no matter the weather. That's why our fleetcheckers are constantly driving around the country to check the tire pressure, windscreen wipers, lights, air conditioning, etc. on all our Hely cars. This way, you can make it to your destination without a worry, no matter the weather!
